A little bird told me
A little bird told me that the CHBDC now acknowledges that it has a problem with waste-water and sewerage. They apparently do not have the finances to put things right!
Now before council starts to blame that condition on the failing global economy, I would like to remind them that for a decade and a half, council has been repeatedly reminded that due to lack of maintenance
and sufficient investment in the core facilities, this day would arrive.
Now it is here!
Some bright spark on council has suggested that they could hike the rates by another five percent per annum, although I understand that the bulk of council realises tha ratepayers would not sit still for that.
Whichever way we look at it, it looks like ratepayers will be set to pay heavily for the neglect of councils, past and present, for decades to come.
If only council had heeded some of that advice to concentrate more on the core facilities in the past, CHB would now be in a good position to weather the storm created by the crash in the world economy.
Oh gee!, I forgot! much of that advice to council has come from me, which I guess invalidates it somewhat?
The same usually reliable 'little bird' informs me that council is also considering, as part of 'due dilligence', The Woolshed matter. I am informed that council is awaiting a report from the regional council regarding what maintenance and expenditure is required to bring that project up to a standard,
whereby council felt it could go ahead.
But wait, surely the regional council has a conflict of interest in the preparing of such a report, as the regional council will have a large percuniary interest in the project as well, not to mention ex-CHB mayor Tim Gilbertson, being a champion of the scheme going ahead, and now being on the regional council?
Seems to me that any such report should now come from the Auditor General's office, or the ministries of Local Government or The Enviroment..But still, what would I know, I'm simply a ratepayer, like most of you!
