PostHeaderIcon Civil Defence

It's lovely living in this peaceable corner of the world - I consider myself greatly blessed. Hardly anything untoward happens here. Local volcanic eruption? Not likely. Tsunami? Highly improbable. Big threatening fire? Maybe. Earthquake. Mmm, now that's a possibility, and one that could seriously impact upon all of our lives.

My point?

Well, I believe we do have a local Civil Defence Officer, have even heard his name mentioned. But I have NEVER seen any local literature dealing with what to expect in terms of emergency response to a local calamity or what we should do under such circumstances. Is there anything I can do to help in a co-ordinated way?.

I am definitely not laying any blame at the door of the worthy gentleman who holds that office. I mean, nothing disastrous has happened that might make us call into question the efficacy of our CD system.

Yet.

Do you think those appointed to the CD welfare of our district need to be more pro-active?? A couple of newspaper notices, an occasional item on the radio, or here. The occasional exercise.

You tell me.

Fantastic! So, when an unforseen circumstance arrives upon us - I'll go and have a look at the Council website. I feel much more at ease now. [tongue in cheek]

PostHeaderIcon Yes, visiting the Council

Yes, visiting the Council website during adverse events is a good thing to do. During the recent heavy rains which caused flooding and road closures throughout the district, the homepage of the Council website was updated approximately every half hour with news of closures, advice for travellers, areas that were flooded etc.
