ACC Predicament our fault? Of course not, but it is quite likely that politicians will soon be bending over backwards to convince us that it is.
We can see that in order to keep ACC afloat, Government will soon be trying to justify hiking up contributions from nearly every source.
Quite clever to hit agriculture first, as farmers cannot pass on costs to the public
directly.Very clever also to almost double the cost of registering motorcycles, as motorcycling is a niche transport culture.
Of course that will not be enough to keep our ACC system afloat, and Government will be forced to to rachet up relicencing costs for private motor vehicles in a meaningful way, not to mention hiking up GST to anything up to about 23%.
The real rub of all of this, is that just as in the case of our National Super Fund, which has suffered very big losses through overseas investment, there will be no accountability for those who sit on the boards and get ridiculous salaries. No accountability for what boils down to mismanagment and bad investment.
The only ones to be held accountable will be the general public who have to pull their belts in a few more notches.
All of these extra costs having to be met by the public will produce inflation like you have never seen, as the workers seek to maintain their standards of living through ever increasing wage demands.
Imagine the industrial unrest if wage demands are not met! How can our financial statisticians find a few hundredths of a percentage point of growth for a quarter or so, and use that with the appropriate spin to convince the public that our economy has pulled out of the financial reccession
I can't help but think that any talking up of the economy at this point will fool no one. With costs spiralling on all fronts, and wage-rises being dirty words, the New Zealand economy is, 'going to hell in a hand-cart'.
