Council provides a Library service to the Central Hawke’s Bay community from two sites – a Council owned building in Waipukurau, and leased premises in Waipawa.
The present Waipawa building is cramped and Council are facing substantial lease cost increases when the present lease expires in 2010
Council’s draft 2009/19 Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) contains a proposal to construct a new library on a Council owned site adjacent to Council’s offices in Waipawa, but with access onto the Waipawa Town Hall site – for parking and convenience. The new building would incorporate Council’s archives, as the present archive building will not meet the mandatory storage standard issued under the Public Records Act 2005. It will also provide limited leasable additional office space.
Indicative costs will be $630,000.
The Starship Foundation can now help you to dispose of your old mobile phones whilst helping to care for our sick kids.
Any make and model regardless of condition will be gratefully received. Working phones will be refurbished and exported for reuse. Phones beyond repair are recycled through the correct environmental channels.
Central Hawke’s Bay residents can drop off old mobile phones at the Council offices, Waipawa and Waipukurau Libraries, Postshop and Leading Edge in Waipukurau.
These will then be sent on to the Starship Foundation.
Challenge 2019 is the name of the new Central Hawke’s Bay Draft 2009-2019 Long Term Council Community Plan – or Community Plan for short – which will be released to the public on 31 March 2009. A two-day Information Expo will be held at the Waipukurau Memorial Hall on the 3-4 April 2009 so the public can see the new plan and comment on the challenges ahead.
Central Hawke’s Bay District Council is thrilled to have received a generous donation from Eastern and Central Community Trust.
“It’s an amazing kick-start for the refurbishment of the Waipawa Municipal Theatre we’re launching to the community in March”, says Mayor Trish Giddens. “We know times are tough, and the trusts are scrutinising their allocations more than ever, so we are doubly grateful”.
Mayor Trish Giddens says that in an economic climate like this, it’s a fine balancing act to ensure that spending continues for the benefit of the community: “We know that this refurbishment project will be well received by the community. The Theatre has a long history and has been a part of so many people’s lives for so many important events”.
