Second Hand Sunday
Date; Sunday 15 February 2009
Time: 10.00am - 2.00pm
Contact: (06) 857 8060
Second-hand Sunday is sort of like a garage sale with no money involved. It’s a chance to give away items you no longer want, and collect items you can use from others around Central Hawke’s Bay for FREE. Remember that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
1. Before Second-Hand Sunday, 15 February 2009, find things you wish to give away and set them aside.
2. Register your property with Council on 8578 060 as this will increase the chances of your items being collected.
(Addresses – but not names – will registered before Thursday 5 February 2009 and will be listed in the CHB Mail, Council, and Libraries one week before the event.)
3. Identify a site within your property boundary such as the driveway, or next to your
letterbox where you can place items to be given away.
4. On SUNDAY 15 FEBRUARY 2009 between 10.00am and 2.00pm:
• Display attached sign on your letter box so people know you have items to give away.
• Place items to give away in your selected area.
• Make sure ITEMS YOU DO NOT WISH TO GIVE AWAY are removed e.g. outdoor pot plants,
kids toys etc…
• Once items have all been collected, put a note out saying “Sorry, all gone.”
• Be there to keep an eye on what is happening and to meet local fossickers.
• By 2.00pm – remove the sign and anything left over.
YOU are responsible for any items left over. (If items are left outside your property, YOU are in breach of solid waste bylaws and may be fined or prosecuted – so please tidy up.)
EXCLUSIONS: NO food or dangerous goods i.e. chemicals, faulty electrical equipment,
firearms, or rubbish.
COLLECTING ITEMS: Collect items where the Second-hand Sunday sign is displayed only.
DON’T ENTER properties – nobody wants to trespass. Check items are safe to use.
LEFTOVER ITEMS: Recycle paper & cardboard, plastics 1 & 2, tin cans, glass bottles & jars
at your nearest drop-off centre, take other items to Second-hand merchants.
Register with the CHB District Council NOW!
