Congratulations CHB Mail-Woolshed straw-poll
Congratulations CHB Mail for your ' straw-poll on the Aromoana Woolshed!!
I think your poll accurately indicates the lack of local ratepayer support for investing $100,000 of ratepayers' funds in this project.
There were three for council's involvement and a crushing seven against!!!
Even ex councilor Di Petersen's 'aye' was a dollar each way, because it was conditional on the community believing that council should go ahead and another was conditional on an unknown and unlikely factor, that the scheme would have a positive effect on the local creation of jobs in the area.
There was only one positive supporter of the sceme who went so far as to say,"Absolutely because history is hard to re-create". I find it difficult to understand just what 'history' he refers to, unless it is the history of mispent rates monies and under-maintained core facilities. Now that history is recreated with monotonous regularity.
What's the bet that council goes quiet on the subject now and simply goes ahead in the face of so much community opposition!!!!!

I have had one 'bright
I have had one 'bright spark' tell me that while they agree with all of the reasons why CHBDC should not go ahead with buying into the Woolshed scheme, they could see that HB Regional Council was sweetening the pot with its largess in making a big contribution.
"HELLO!!" Isn't that also part of the tax on CHB ratepayers just as surely as our CHBDC rates??
In effect doesn't that just go to show that most of the local ratepayers are being hit with a 'double-whammy', one from CHB District Council and one from HB Regional council?
When seen in that light, it is hard to see how such a regional facility would be of benefit to CHB unless it is to benefit only a small 'special interest' group.
As the Auditor-General has been called into this matter to settle what appears to be some strategic in-fighting within Council , wouldn't it be best if the A-G's office oversaw and reported on the whole process thus far?
